When the Obstacle is Actually "Mercy"

Numbers 22:33 (the Angel of the Lord speaks to Balaam):"The donkey saw me and turned away from me these three times. If it had not turned away, I would certainly have killed you by now, but I would have spared it."

What we often call "obstacles" might actually be God's mercy in disguise! The delays, blocks, or redirections may be from God to keep us from spiritual harm or judgment. The question we must ask is not, ‘What’s blocking me?’ but ‘Am I walking in obedience?’ Balaam blamed the donkey, but the real issue was his heart that was strayed . The true obstacle wasn't on the path, but within him: disobedience and misplaced intentions. Balaam was set on doing what looked like a prophetic duty, but God knew his motives!!

And here's the sobering truth: Balaam would have been killed if the donkey hadn't stopped him. What he saw as a frustrating delay was actually the very thing saving his life.

Before rebuking the roadblock we have to stop and ask ourselves:

  • Is this really an obstacle or a warning?

  • Am I pursuing God’s will or my own version of God’s will?

  • Have I prayed for clarity or am I just pushing forward?

Lord, teach me to welcome Your correction and trust Your protection. Let not my stubbornness blind me to Your mercy. May I never mistake Your rescue for a setback.

A beautiful call, to walk with people  To share their tears, to lift a prayer, to stand with hope when none is there. Oh the joy our hearts...
